We all love to hate change, but we also get bored without it. How can that be?
Picture this; we don’t like potholes, but we also don’t like it when a street is closed for construction.
The best organizational cultures are the ones who encourage learning for the sake of learning. As HR guru Norman Frazier told me, learning leads to small incremental changes. Major changes come when the status quo takes a serious hit. While sometimes necessary, major changes can be very disruptive.
The opposite of too much change is no change. One of the worst things an organization can do is to fall into the “it’s always been done this way” trap. Want to lower your employee engagement? Just keep telling folks: “that’s not the way we do things.”
